Spatial Audio Showcase
A collaboration between the Tanglewood Music Center and the FreshGrass Institute
The Tanglewood Music Center and the FreshGrass Institute are pleased to continue their collaborative Studio 9 initiative for the 2026 season, offering TMC Composition Fellows the opportunity to create and experiment with spatial audio and electroacoustic composition at Studio 9. Located at the Porches Inn in North Adams, Massachusetts, the performance and recording venue is built around a Meyer Sound Constellation system that transforms the acoustic character of the room, allowing composers to shape how sound moves through and inhabits space and placing listeners inside immersive sonic environments.
Designed as a laboratory for new music, the project invites Fellows to explore space itself as a compositional element. Composition faculty Senem Pirler, Nina C. Young, and Todd Reynolds guide Fellows in learning Meyer Sound’s Spacemap Go spatial audio tools and developing original works for the Constellation system.
The project culminates in a spatial audio showcase on August 14 at 7 PM in North Adams, featuring innovative new works by the 2026 TMC Composition Fellows developed during their time at Studio 9.

Venue and parking
Studio 9 is located at 18 Veazie St, adjacent to the Porches Inn.
You are welcome to park in the following locations:
– The small lot across the street
– The community lot nearest the UNO Park on River St
– East side of Veazie Street (same side as the studio)
– or on the Porches side of River St.
Do not park in the following locations:
– Porches Guest lots
– The downhill side of Veazie
– Eastbound side of River Street (the side that Mass MoCA is on)
