Celebrating the release of In the Night, this Studio 9 performance of Jazz standards and half-forgotten classics that are reimagined by Jazz singer Mary Ann Palermo and five-time Emmy winner Dave Smith on grand piano. Studio 9 is the perfect place to debut this album, since Smith’s decades of work in audio engineering has captured the balance, clarity, and dynamic range of his piano playing optimized with Palermo’s vocals. In the Night is a collection of eight American Jazz ballads and torch songs carried by Palermo’s singing and imbued with exacting control of ranging emotional tone, accompanied by Smith’s Steinway piano. Other songs, including Swing, Latin Jazz, and Jazz Blues, round out tonight’s concert.

Dave Smith, a Berklee-trained pianist with a deep mastery of Jazz harmony and a refined sonic expertise from mixing for film and television, has been a fixture of the Hudson Valley jazz scene for many years. He has performed at the Hudson Valley Jazz Festival, with The New York Swing Exchange, with The Skye Jazz Trio.
