Studio9 Presents: BAAMS Benefit Concert

Join us for a special evening of music at Studio9, a benefit performance for BAAMS — the Berkshires’ Academy for Advanced Musical Studies — featuring members of the BAAMS faculty, Dario Boente, piano, Richard Boulger, trumpet and flugelhorn, Alex Blake, bass, and Victor Jones, drums and percussion. Grammy and Latin Grammy Winner Argentinian born pianist and composer Dario Boente, is equally at home performing romantic Argentine and jazz compositions on a grand piano, as he is programming world-beat electronica. North Adams native and former touring and live-recording artist with the Allman Brothers’ Band, Richard Boulger taught music to inner-city New York children for over 20 years before returning home to start BAAMS, the music academy now based in Heritage Park, North Adams.

Alex Blake’s revolutionary playing style and technique combines his unique, innovative strumming, rapid, lyrical notations and percussive slaps on his bass to create a unique and compelling sound. Some have called Blake “an entire rhythm section”. Victor Jones toured with Stan Getz, Stanley Clarke, Dizzy Gillespie, and Chaka Khan. Stan Getz said, “Victor is one top of the world caliber drummers, and I don’t say that lightly.” George Benson states, ”Whether playing funk, rock, or jazz, Victor Jones is one cat that gets it right.”

Studio9 is the perfect setting for this intimate concert, its gorgeous, pure acoustics competing only with the lovely views of the campus of North Adams’ Porches’ Inn, directly across from MASS MoCA.

All proceeds go to support music education from BAAMS, which provides after-school and Saturday music study, as well as a summer jazz band day camp each August, for students ages 10-18, of all experience levels. Throughout the year, ‘BAAMS Presents’ also offers various events to add to the region’s cultural richness in celebration of music and the arts.
